¨ MSAT Medical School Admission Test
Developed by ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) in consultation with certain university medical schools. The following universities required MSAT:
¨ King’s College London ¨ Queen Mary, University of London ¨ The University of Warwick
Cover three main components: 1. Critical Reasoning (45 questions in 65 minutes) 2. Interpersonal Understanding (55 questions in 55 minutes) 3. Written Communication (2 tasks of 30 minutes each)

¨ GAMSAT Graduate Medical School Admission Test
Developed by ACER to assist in the selection of students intending to participate in a graduate-entry medical program. The following medical schools require GAMSATs:
¨ St Georges Hospital Medical School ¨ Univeristy of Nottingham at Derby Medical School ¨ Univeristy of Wales Swansea Medical School ¨ The 5-year undergraduate entry program at Peninsula Medical School
The purpose of GAMSAT is to assess ability to understand and analyse material, to think critically about issues and to organise and express thoughts in a logical and effective way. The test is in three sections: Section I: Reasoning in Humanities and Social Sciences Section II: Written Communications - 2 x 30 minute tasks looking at (i) Socio-cultural issues and (ii) Personal and social issues Section III: Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences This is made up of question in three discipline areas of the following proportions— Chemistry 40% Biology 40% Physics 20%

¨ BMAT BioMedical Admission Test
BMAT is a subject-specific admissions test owned and administered by Cambridge Assessment. It is required for the following courses:
¨ The Royal Veterinary College ¨ The University of Bristol Veterinary School ¨ Imperial College London - Medicine ¨ University College London - Medicine ¨ University of Cambridge - Medicine, graduate Medicine, Veterinary Medicine ¨ University of Manchester - Pre-Medicine entry, Pre-dental entry ¨ University of Oxford - Medicine and Physiological science
The BMAT is a 2 hour pen and paper test consisting of 3 sections: Section 1: Aptitude and Skill (60 mins—35 multiple choice or short answer questions) Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Applications (30 mins—27 multiple choice or short answer questions) Section 3: Writing Task (30 mins - 1 from choice of 3 short essay questions)

Some medical schools have recently introduced admission tests for use in the selection of students into 4– and 5-year medical degrees. The scores from these tests are used in conjuction with academic results and performance at interviews. The three in place at present are the MSAT, GAMSAT and BMAT. |
