1. Confirm operation with registrar/ consultant 2. Inform theatre. Give full details of the diagnosis. procedure proposed, patient details and confirm when a theatre will be available 3. Admit the patient formally to a ward 4. Contact the anaesthetist on call with details as above. Agree a provisional time 5. Inform the ward staff 6. Check all blood results, radiographs and ECG, CXR etc are available. Check drug and fluid sheets are completed 7. Should there be a change of plan ensure that all involved are informed as soon as possible, including the patient 8. Most fracture reductions are not urgent cases. If unreasonable delay occurs because of more urgent cases, if may be necessary to delay the operation to the next day. In this case, inform all those involved and allow patient to eat and drink. Discuss this situation with registrar / consultant on call. |
