Applying for a job |
|
¨ Advertisements for dental employment appears mainly national journals, predominately the BDJ and BMJ ¨ Discussions with colleagues and your consultant may indicate where the jobs are ¨ The more junior a post, the more predictable the time of its advertisement ¨ If you are really interested in a specific post, check the journals from the previous year to assess when it is likely to be advertised ¨ There may be a very short time between the advisement being placed and the closing date for applications ¨ Before intending to apply for a new post inform your consultant ¨ Application procedures are usually given in the advertisement, read it carefully! ¨ Apart from the necessary application forms, submit curriculum vitae with a handwritten (neat) letter of application ¨ It is also good manners to contact your referees, preferably by letter, when you have decided to apply ¨ Referees may well be able to advise upon the advantages or otherwise of the advertised position and the appropriateness or otherwise of the application. They may know of other appropriate jobs. ¨ Send your referees a recent curriculum vitae and photograph; this will help to remind them of you, of all your present qualifications, and allow them to do you justice!
