A study planner has been developed as the result of a collaborative effort between the three colleges. PASS is designed to help candidates Plan And Successfully Stand for the MFDS/ MFD examination. The three main sections of the planner correspond to the three parts of the examination.

It has been updated (second edition now out) by a team of 19 contributors and 11 editors who are involved with MFDS training and examining, taking into account evaluation of the first edition and feedback from candidates who have used the first edition of PASS.

Each of the contributors to the planner has provided some guidance as to the study of their own subject. You can expect to find useful information about the relative importance of each of the following topics and the depth to which it should be studied:

¨ Anatomy

¨ Pathology

¨ Physiology

¨ Radiology

¨ Medical microbiology

¨ Systemic disease in relation to dentistry

¨ Medical emergencies in relation to dentistry

Clinical scenarios are included for each of sections 1—6 of the syllabus. These are situations which a dentist completing General Professional Training might be expected to deal with. Self-assessment accompanies the scenarios. These follow the structure of the types of examination questions which will be used in the multiple choice questions( MCQs), as well as multiple short answer questions (MSAs).

Throughout the planner are tips for study or for attempting the questions posed. A personal planner template is also included, into which you can slot your study periods.
