Working as Senior House Officer (SHO) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the first time can be a daunting prospect. Most SHO’s in this specialty are dentally qualified, and need to quickly acquire the basic medical skills required for the job. This is intended as an informal guide to working as an Oral and Maxillofacial SHO for the first time.
What is Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?
In general, Maxillofacial surgery is a postgraduate subject which has evolved from oral surgery, with foundations in medicine, dentistry and surgery.
This is a website compiled by Oral and Maxillofacial SHO’s for new Oral and Maxillofacial SHO’s out there. It is intended as a helping hand and a source of reference for those daunting days and nights on call. It is also intended to give some insight into the world of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for dental and medical undergraduates.
It is not intended as a comprehensive guide, but as a practical guide and source of reference for new learners. We hope to answer all the questions you ever wanted to ask, but are too afraid to!!!
